WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ME AND WHAT I EXPECT OF YOU
I have wanted to teach my entire life. I love helping students believe in themselves and realize their own potential through positive reinforcement and high standards. I expect a lot from myself and I expect a lot from my students as well. While I may push you farther than you may think you can go sometimes I will be there to support and encourage you along the way.
MY TEACHING BACKGROUND
I went to college at Cal State San Marcos and got my bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Spanish. I continued to attend CSUSM to get my multiple subject teaching credential. Which basically means I am able to teach grades kindergarten through 8th grade. I did my student teaching in grades:1 and a 3-4 combo. I taught in Temecula teaching grades 2nd and 5th. I ended up getting a masters degree from Walden University in Elementary Literacy. I became a leader in the school district developing curriculum and enjoyed bringing the curriculum back and helping to implement it at the school level. I started a running program as well as a Spanish Club with my own fifth grade class. After a 9 year absence I am now in my third year teaching at a Catholic middle school and I love the fact that I can talk about God and his Kingdom and weave his message into everything I teach. I am passionate about teaching reading and writing and am blessed that God led me to be the humanities teacher here at St. Mary School.
When I started a family I decided I really wanted to be at home with my kids for as long as possible. In order to do this I ran a business from home dealing with health and wellness. While I’m still working my business, going back to teaching and working in the same school as my children is a dream come true.
I enjoy being healthy and active. Hiking with my family, gardening, as well as running (occasionally), are some of my favorite activities. Anything that has to do with being outdoors puts a smile on my face.
My husband and I got married in Yosemite National Park. That was before, of course, I realized my calling to the Catholic faith. We had our marriage blessed right here at St Mary Church on St. Patrick’s Day in 2001. I was baptized Catholic as an infant but wasn’t introduced to Catholicism until 2000 when I went through the RCIA (Right of Christian Initiation for Adults). After going through the program I fell in love with Catholicism and continued my faith journey by assisting and eventually running the RCIA program for a couple of years with my husband. I love being a Catholic and I have a high interest in understanding how to defend my faith through Sacred Teachings and the Bible.
We never really know what our future holds but I am open to God’s plan for me. I used to want to control what happened, but I am in a time in my life where I am giving the control up to God. I love that God has directed me here to a Catholic school to teach and I look forward to sharing my love of faith, knowledge, and self improvement with the students of St. Mary School.
